LEAP Inspiration

LEAP Founder Tim “Tuba” Smith is a 2003 graduate of KU. KU LEAP was an idea that spawned out of his own experience and path in the entertainment industry. He found that every person’s path is different involving many different variables and histories.

After graduating from KU in 2003 he has progressed from technical production to operations and logistical planning to producing top tier events around the world. He is currently the Director of Festivals and Strategic Initiatives at C3 Presents in Austin, TX, who produce some of the largest festival brands on the planet including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, and about 25 other festival brands.

This program is designed to bring awareness to career paths and opportunities for all students.

The entertainment industry, especially the live event space, utilizes the skills of virtually every professional field.

About The Program

Seminars – In person with KU alumni actively working in the live event space, talking about their path from KU to where they are today.

Immersion – Apply to have the ultimate LEAP experience.
A select few will be chosen to travel up to Chicago to be fully immersed in Lollapalooza, a 4 day music festival hosting 105,000 people per day and over 160+ bands and performances. Experience both the front of house items that go into a major music festival as well as the massive machine that is behind the curtain that makes it all run. Meet one on one with industry professionals who produce Lollapalooza and other top tier events around the world. Hear their stories, ask them questions, get tours of back stage areas, compounds, technical areas, safety setups as well as unprecedented industry access. All expenses are covered by the LEAP program via KU Endowment. See below on how to apply!
